Federal immigration: the TCF Canada is accepted
For programs managed by IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada), the TCF Canada is an officially recognised French test:
- Express Entry (skilled workers, CEC, etc.);
- Provincial programs (PNP) with a francophone stream, outside Quebec;
- Canadian citizenship (proof of language ability);
- Various pilot programs (RNIP, francophone mobility…).
In all these cases, your result is converted to NCLC (CLB).
The special case of Quebec
Quebec selects its immigrants under its own rules (through programs like the PSTQ). It generally uses other tests, such as the TCF pour le Québec (TCFQ) or the TEFAQ, rather than the TCF Canada.
Crucial point: if your project goes through Quebec, check which test the target program requires — it isn't necessarily the TCF Canada.

The TCF Canada and TEF Canada are interchangeable for the federal stream.
The mistake to absolutely avoid
The costliest confusion: taking the wrong test for your program. A "TCF tout public" or TCFQ result does not replace a TCF Canada for federal immigration, and vice versa.
The right reflex: before booking, identify your immigration program first, then check the exact test required. Only then prepare for the matching format. When in doubt, consult IRCC or the target program's website.
